A man is in a critical condition after he was found lying on a street outside a shopping centre after he was reportedly shot several times in western Sydney, police say.

The man was found with serious injuries on Rider Boulevard, Rhodes by emergency services about 4.50am on Wednesday.

He was treated by paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital, a NSW Ambulance spokesman said. Police said he was believed to be in a critical condition and undergoing surgery in hospital.

Rider Boulevarde and Mary Street were blocked by police investigating the shooting and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

The shooting follows the death on Monday of Faalau Pisu after he was shot twice in the head at a wedding reception in Canley Vale. Police said Mr Pisu and two other men who were also shot had links to the Comanchero bikie club.

Mr Pisu's death was the second targeted killing in Sydney in three weeks.

In mid-October, Yehya Amoud, 27, died after being shot as he sat in a car on Greenacre Road, Greenacre. In August, suspected Lone Wolf associates Roy Yaghi and Jamie Grover were shot dead in a car in South Wentworthville.
