A siege is underway at a shopping centre in a suburb of Wollongong, after two people armed with guns walked into a cinema.
Police said officers were called to the Westfield Shopping Centre on the corner of Cowper and King Streets, Warrawong, about 6.10am, after security guards reported two people had entered the Hoyts cinema.
It's understood the people are armed.
Witnesses reported seeing teams of heavily armed police entering the shopping centre after 6am, the Illawarra Mercury reported.
Local police have formed a perimeter and shut down the shopping centre.
Roads surrounding the shopping centre are blocked until further notice.
A NSW Police spokesman said no further information was available.
