There are two burning questions in Australian football at the moment - will we sign David Beckham and who will next coach Sydney FC?
The Beckham issue will become clearer next week, and it has been encouraging to see the enthusiasm with which A-League clubs have pursued the superstar.
And then there's the Sydney coaching saga. This is something that needs to be resolved quickly. The Sky Blues can't continue to ship goals and lose by big margins at a time when all eyes are on them.
I'm not convinced they should just appoint a caretaker for the rest of the season.
My feeling is that Sydney should bring someone in on a heavily-incentivised contract. More specifically, if they finish this season in the top six they stay on, and if they don't they move on.
It's important to link the backroom's future to that of the coach, including anyone who the new coach brings in.
So, who would I like to see in the job?
Any of these four: Frank Farina, Miron Bleiberg, Robbie Di Matteo and John Gregory.
Frank will bring plenty of passion and experience to the job. He brought through some great young players in Tommy Oar and Mitch Nichols during his time at Brisbane and he is well versed in working with big personalities from his time as a player and coach.
Miron, the mercurial ex-Gold Coast United manager, definitely has the man management skills to deal with a dressing room like Sydney's.
As for the overseas candidates, I'd love to see my old Chelsea teammate, Robbie Di Matteo, over here. He lost the top job at Chelsea this week in controversial circumstances, and a potential problem other than his wage could be whether taking a job so quickly would jeopardise any payout from Stamford Bridge.
That said, he is an absolute gentleman and would bring an incredible amount of experience and interest.
My old boss at Aston Villa, John Gregory, is another who would excel out here. He is as tactically astute as any coach I've worked under and was a real disciple of Terry Venables.
As important as the identity of the coach is the resources and support they receive from the club bosses. I hope the matter can be resolved quickly and Sydney can get back to capitalising on their big surge in popularity this season.
I'd be happy to see any of these four take the reins - or they could go after their original choice, Central Coach Mariners coach Graham Arnold.
