Helen McCabe 2015 Andrew Olle Media Lecture
Thank you Richard. And thank you to Mark Scott and the ABC for honouring me with this opportunity. Next month, it will be 20 years since Andrew Olle died. It was Tuesday December 12, 1995. I was on the family farm in South Australia, on leave from my role as a Channel Seven reporter in the Canberra press gallery. It is baking hot on the Adelaide plains in December. The landscape is littered with tractors and chaser bins, as farmers race to finish harvest. News of Andrew's passing saturate the airwaves. Six thousand letters of sympathy poured into the ABC. On this night, each year, we recall Andrew's many qualities for he was much loved. According ..>> view original'Cloud tsunami' hits Sydney - in pictures | Australia news | The Guardian

Weeks after being selected at centre for England's World Cup showdown with Wales, code-switching Burgess has left his club Bath to rejoin South Sydney Rabbitohs.Although Burgess said his decision was for family reasons, the timing, just after England's humiliating early exit from their own World Cup, could not be worse for the Rugby Football Union (RFU) as it starts the post-mortem into what went wrong. When Burgess joined Bath little over a year ago, the RFU trumpeted the fact that one of rugby league's biggest stars had switched codes and his rapid elevation to the England ranks suggested a long career would follow. The 26-year-old Yorkshireman who made his name with Bradford Bulls has seen ..>> view originalOur pick of what's on around town this weekend
