Teenage boy shot outside apartment block in Sydney suburb of Greenacre - ABC Online

Police say a teenage boy who was shot in Sydney's south-west overnight is not co-operating with their investigation.

The 16-year-old was talking with two other boy in a driveway of an apartment block at Greenacre when he was shot in the ankle about 1am (AEDT).

Inspector Scott McAlpine says the other two boys ran from the scene.

"The three persons saw a male standing at the top of the driveway when the shots were fired," he said.

Forensic specialists have examined the crime scene, including a bullet hole in the back window of a parked car.

The injured boy is in a stable condition in hospital.

Greenacre has been the scene of several gang-related acts of violence, including the fatal shooting of a Brothers 4 Life member and wounding of another in October last year.

But at this stage police do not believe the latest shooting has a gangs link.

"At this time the victim's not co-operating with police. There's nothing to suggest this is gang-related at this time," Inspector McAlpine said.

"The victim has no previous dealings with police, he was not known to police.

"It is one of our lines of inquiry, but at this stage there's nothing to say that it is related."
