New Sydney casino to head even higher - Yahoo!7 News

James Packer s new casino resort for Sydney is tipped to soar 270 metres above Sydney s skyline.AAP James Packer's new casino resort for Sydney is tipped to soar 270 metres above Sydney's skyline.

A mega-resort housing Sydney's second casino is tipped to soar 20 metres higher than originally planned, making it the second tallest landmark in the city.

James Packer's Crown Resorts has proposed a $1.3 billion project for Barangaroo on Sydney Harbour that would include a new VIP casino and a six star hotel.

News Corp Australia reports the project plans reveal the building would stand 270 metres high, instead of the previously indicated 250m, and also include a new pier to be built on the harbour.

The pier would be for an innovation centre.

According to the report, the foreshore area fronting the resort would be widened and 50 per cent of the waterfront precinct would be public space.

Sydney Tower is Sydney's highest landmark at 309m.

The NSW Government progressed Mr Packer's casino vision through the approvals process earlier this month.

The government says the casino, which is set to operate in November 2019, will bring at least $1 billion in the first 15 years from licence fees and gaming taxes.

The Greens had criticised the approval process the project went through for a lack of consultation and independence.
