A tearful Sydney FC defender Tiago Calvano will remain in football's purgatory for another week after the Football Federation of Australia disciplinary committee did not rule on his judicial hearing regarding his contact on referee Peter Green.

Calvano was cited to have grabbed the arm of Green during Sydney's 3-2 win over Melbourne Victory in round five and was cited for unsporting conduct or gesture towards a referee. The committee heard the submissions made by both Sydney FC and the FFA and indicated that Calvano will face a suspension, but did not rule on the length of the ban following the hearing on Wednesday night.

Calvano is serving a two-match ban with one remaining and the committee indicated there was no need to rush a decision as it would not affect the player or the club this weekend.

A decision will have to be made by November 27 before Calvano is next eligible to play.

The FFA disciplinary council recommended a suspension ranging from six to eight weeks but the disciplinary committee is not required to adhere to the recommendation and can enforce a longer ban.

The Brazilian defender made an emotional statement to the committee and at one point shed a tear due to the potential impact a lengthy ban would have on his family and their residency in Australia. The 32-year-old is on a visa sponsored by the club and is in the final year of his contract which expires in April.
