A ferry which hit a wharf in Sydney Harbour has been taken away to be inspected as part of an investigation into the crash.

Eight people suffered minor injuries when the RiverCat struck a pylon at Circular Quay just after 12:30pm (AEDT) this afternoon.

One man was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with facial injuries.

A spokesman for Sydney Ferries says the vessel sustained damage to its bow and has been taken to a shipyard to be inspected and repaired.

Police say it appears the vessel struck a pylon while it was stopped at the wharf.
