Police believe a man who was caught driving almost 200 kilometres an hour in Sydney's west overnight was under the influence of drugs.
Highway patrol officers began pursuing the car on the M4 motorway at South Wentworthville.
In a high-speed chase that followed, police say the driver overtook 25 cars and trucks within 10 kilometres.
The 36-year-old driver was eventually arrested when he pulled over on an off-ramp at Blacktown.
He was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing, and police have suspended his licence.
Police spokeswoman Joanne Elliott said it was a very dangerous situation.
"This utility... reached speeds of up to 197 kilometres an hour," she said.
"Police will be alleged that he appeared to be affected by prohibited drugs."
