Baby boy abducted at knife-point from Sydney home - ABC Online

Police helicopters and the dog squad have been called in to help search on Sydney's southern outskirts for a baby boy kidnapped by his father overnight.

Anyone with information on the location of the boy or his father has been urged to call triple-0 immediately.

Police say the 24-year-old man was armed with a knife when he forced his way into a house on Kenthurst Place at Chester Hill, in Sydney's west, around 8:30pm.

He grabbed the eight-month-old boy and his 16-year-old mother and put them into his 2007 black Toyota Camry.

Around 10.00pm, the car stopped on the Hume Highway at Douglas Park, where the man punched his ex-girlfriend in the face before letting her out.

The man then drove off with the boy still in the car.

Police found the empty getaway car abandoned in bushland off Avon Dam Road at Bargo, south-west of Sydney, just before 7am.

Rural Fire Service and SES volunteers are now helping police scour bushland near where the car was found.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 165 - 175 centimetres tall, thin build, with brown hair and wearing a blue jumper and green track pants.

He has tattoos on his arms and chest.

The commander of the Bankstown Local Area Command, Superintendant David Airdley, says police are desperate for any information from the public.

"All evidence indicates that the man still has the child with him. Clearly we have extreme concerns for the welfare of the child, and the welfare of the man," he said.

"We're urging any person who may have sighted the man and child, any vehicles, a man walking down the road with the child, please contact triple-0 and provide that information.

"There's nothing in the vehicle that would give us an indication of where the man has gone.

"There appears to be some accident damage to the front of the vehicle, we don't know whether the man or child sustained any injuries as a result of how that vehicle became damaged, through any type of collision, so clearly we have extreme concerns for the welfare of the child."
