Three men jailed over Sydney stabbing - Yahoo!7 News

Three men have been jailed for up to 16 years for the murder of a man they chased down and killed in a Sydney street in an extreme act of revenge.

Sean Robert Sutcliffe, Darren Michael Hoskins and Darren Troy Moulds were found guilty earlier this year of murdering 22-year-old Jamie Lefoe in January 2011.

During the trial, the court heard a fight broke out at Ruse in Sydney's southwest between Mr Lefoe and the men after he accused Hoskins of burning his mother's car.

Mr Lefoe fired a number of shots, grazing the back of Moulds' head before he fled down the street.

But the trio, with a fourth man Michael Brown, set upon him, chasing him down and attacking him with a baseball bat, a crowbar and a knife.

Mr Lefoe was fatally stabbed in the lower back.

In sentencing the men at the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, Acting Justice Michael Grove said the provocation by Mr Lefoe towards all three men, was "no minor matter".

"Jamie Lefoe came armed with a lethal weapon, used it in a threatening fashion and enhanced the threats by discharging shots in and around the area in which persons were present."

But he said at the time of his death Mr Lefoe was fleeing.

He found Sutcliffe, who stabbed Mr Lefoe, had attacked him out of revenge and a desire to take the law into his own hands.

The 40-year-old was given the lengthiest sentence, with a minimum of 12 years and a maximum of 16.

For his role in the murder, 39-year-old Hoskins was sentenced to a minimum of nine years and a total of 12 while Moulds, was given a minimum of seven-and-a-half years with a maximum of 10.

Brown, who was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter, was sentenced to a minimum of three years and a maximum of five for his role.

Justice Grove said Brown, now 23, had a background marked by deprivation and had expressed sincere sorrow over the attack.

He will be eligible for parole in January.
