Two men who crashed a car resulting in the death of an elderly man in Sydney's southwest have been arrested.
Police have labelled as "despicable" the behaviour of the men who fled the scene of the crash that resulted in the death a pedestrian at Ambarvale.
The 70-year-old man suffered a cardiac arrest after being hit by a stolen Nissan Pulsar while walking along a footpath about 10.45am (AEST).
He was treated at the scene by paramedics but later died in hospital.
The car overturned and ended up on the front lawn of a property before two men wearing black and red tracksuits were seen leaving the vehicle and running down Jarndyce Avenue.
"This 70-year-old was walking along minding his own business, and to run off without giving any assistance, it is despicable," Inspector Bill Slatford told AAP.
He said police were checking health-care facilities in the area on Monday afternoon in case the wanted men turned up for treatment.
"Our detectives are making a number of inquiries to follow up with hospitals and medical centres in the area," Insp Slatford said.
"We believe the two (men) may have been injured as a result of the car accident."
Anyone with further information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
