FREMANTLE coach Ross Lyon has declared Sydney the team to beat and said the Dockers want to emulate the Swans' effort and hunger.
Lyon lauded the reigning premiers, who Fremantle drew with at the SCG in Round 8, following the Swans' 77-point demolition of Adelaide on the weekend.
"The Swans are dog hungry. Regardless of where they play and the scoreboard, they're giving their best and that's the sort of team we want to be,'' he said.
"There's a benchmark out there we're all chasing. It's called Sydney and we've got a bit of work to do yet.
"The premiers are clearly the benchmark and we need to improve. We're aspiring to be the best we can be and it all starts with this training session today.''
Fremantle has four of its next five games at Patersons Stadium, beginning with Brisbane on Saturday.
The Dockers will have had a 14-day break following their mid-season bye.
"It's been a really good mental freshener,'' Lyon said.
"They're really sharp and enthusiastic and vibrant and they're looking forward to the challenge against Brisbane.''
Michael Walters is pushing to return against North Melbourne next Sunday, while Matthew Pavlich and Aaron Sandilands are still several weeks away.
Lyon was confident Pavlich wouldn't be too far away.
"He had a setback a number of weeks ago now, so he's on track now. But on track for when, we don't know,'' Lyon said.
"We're really confident he's going to play in the near term, but he needs to get a training block under him, as does Aaron.''
