FOG may be diverting planes from Sydney, but there were no entertainment diversions this morning, as all routes led to Orlando Bloom.

The Hollywood A-lister slipped into town this morning, just making his morning media call, having recently finished up in Cannes, where his latest film, Zulu, closed the annual filmic fiesta.

Already critically acclaimed, Zulu looks set to be the next hit for the Pirates of the Caribbean star.

“With it just having been shown it’s now a matter of working on when it will open around the world," he told news.com.au

While his wife, Miranda Kerr is a Qantas ambassador, the internationally-renowned actor was guest of British Airways, the airline of which he is a global face.

No doubt the double whammy of airline sponsorships makes family travel an interesting Kerr-Bloom proposition with their baby boy, Flynn, having the choice of flying either 'all things Aussie' or the ‘best of British’.

But he wouldn't be drawn on exactly how the logistics of that arrangement would work.

Mr Bloom was in very perky spirits when we caught up with him after the official proceedings, having spent 32 hours to get to Australia. But then, first class would do that to you.

British Airways opted to deliver a touch of the UK to Australia; with guests enjoying canapés and sipping Pimms while taking in a sunny Sydney Harbour view.

Arriving in from London this morning, Orlando Bloom joined British Airways VIP customers and Australian celebrities like Gracie Otto, Elka Whalan and Peter Morrissey, to celebrate new service updates on the Sydney-London route with passengers travelling between Sydney and London on new 777-300ER aircrafts.

“I’ve flown with British Airways since I was a boy and it feels really special to be a friend of BA – having gone from European family holidays to being fortunate enough to fly in First,’’ Bloom told the gathered throng.

“In my mind, there is no better First that British Airways’ First. I’ve made a long journey to be with you today, having just flown in from Cannes, and enjoying breakfast in the Concorde Lounge - a delicious breakfast, and even better for the fact that you don’t need to pay at the end.”

Nicole Backo, British Airways Regional General Manager, South West Pacific said the event was an opportunity to celebrate the next chapter for British Airways in Australia and to thank loyal customers.

The British Airways event also served as an opportunity to announce the upcoming launch of British Airways’ chauffeur service for Australian First customers.

From July 1, First customers will travel in style to and from Sydney Airport, just as Orlando did today, in either Jaguar or Range Rovers. We should all be so lucky.
