WESTERN Sydney Wanderers have landed a telling blow in the battle of the football codes with a near-perfect start in the A-League.

The Wanderers moved in leaps and bounds in their inaugural season, winning the premiers plate, breaking win records and selling out stadiums.

They lost the grand final 2-0 to Central Coast Mariners at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

After being announced on April 4 last year, the club did an amazing job to build a team only five months before the season began.

Support from the locals came thick and fast, with the third round derby against Sydney FC a sell-out.

The club's supporter group, the Red and Black Bloc, made a name for itself as the league's most vocal and energetic fans.

LET'S CELEBRATE

A parade will be held in Church St, Parramatta, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm today, culminating in a family fun event in Prince Alfred Park
