Sydney base on the cards for McEvoy - Wide World of Sports - Ninemsn - Ninemsn

Tony McEvoy is seriously considering establishing a permanent base in Sydney and Sysmo's midweek win at Canterbury has only fuelled his enthusiasm.

The South Australian trainer continued his excellent local record when the former French galloper claimed Wednesday's Facebook.com/sydneycarnival Handicap (1580m).

McEvoy has also enjoyed recent Sydney success with the likes of Summer Cup winner Le Roi and Pelicano who took out the Listed Parramatta Cup last month.

In Sydney for the Easter Yearling Sales at Newmarket, McEvoy made the trek across town to Canterbury to watch Sysmo score and he is equally excited about the former French galloper's future as he is about his own.

"We're very lucky our horses have run very well for us (in Sydney) and hopefully, in a while, I might be up here a bit more often," McEvoy said.

When asked if he would look to obtain some permanent boxes in Sydney, McEvoy confirmed it was part of his long-term plans.

"It's probably not going to happen in the next year but maybe after that," he said.

"I'm based in the Barossa Valley which is eight hours from Melbourne so it's easy to travel there and back, but Sydney is 15 hours away.

"I need a base here. I am seriously thinking about it, it's something I would like to do."

McEvoy is also looking to the future with Sysmo.

Lining up for just his 10th start, the four-year-old relished a strong speed to score a decisive 1-1/4 length win.

McEvoy feels he will be even better once stepped up over more ground and hasn't ruled out a trip to Brisbane for some winter carnival spoils.

"The (Sydney) carnival will probably come a bit soon for him but I will place him again in a smallish race and if he continues to improve we might look at Brisbane," McEvoy said.
