SYDNEY'S FIRST Fleet Park near Circular Quay was the scene of an international phenomena of collective madness as a flashmob of about 300 people spontaneously attacked each other with fluffy pillows at 11:00 yesterday morning.
Spotted among the combatants was professional super feather wight boxer and model Lauryn Eagle, defeating several opponents with her over-sized pillow.
Then, as sudden as the it started, the feathery altercation came to an end and participants dipersed in all directions, leaving tourists and locals wondering what they just had witnessed.
"I don't know, seems like a bunch of people are having a laugh,"a passer-by remarked.
The pillow fight craze started sometime in this millennium as an urban, non-commercial event, promoted on the internet via social media.
The largest pillow fight to this date took place in 2008 in New York City where 5,000 pillow-wielding assailants battled it out at Union Square.
Meanwhile the soft edge battle has reached global dimensions, with almost a hundred participating cities from Harare in Zimbabwe over Berlin, Germany to Saigon, Vietnam.
Everyone can enter these events, as long as they obey the basic rules; soft pillows only, swing lightly and remove glasses beforehand.
