The week is looking mixed - clearing showers on Monday and Tuesday, mostly sunny for Wednesday and Thursday.

7:08am: The body of a Kempsey man Rikki Dornan has been found in a waterfall in the New England tablelands, nearly one week after he accidentally tumbled over the edge while taking a break during a road trip.




7:06am: An Australian woman trapped in Dubai with her chidren while her husband battles bribery charges has finally received some good news from the emirate's authorities who have returned her Australian passport.




7:03am: Despite the win, it's only going to get worse for the Cronulla Sharks today.


Chairman Damian Irvine is expected to become the latest casualty with players and officials turning on him. It follows five men leaving the club and one being taken to hospital for stress.




6:59am: The Cronulla Sharks needed a win last night more than most teams.


Captain Paul Gallan wore an armband carrying the names of the five men who were axed or stood down after doping allegations. And the club faithful gathered outside Sharks HQ to show their support for the club.

6:55am: In Schapelle Corby affairs (yes, she's still in prison and yes, we're still talking about it)... the Foreign Affairs Minister Bob Carr's election-year about-face guaranteeing that Schapelle Corby would be on her best behaviour will still not ensure she will be released on parole, Bali's prison governor said.

6:48am: Down in Melbourne, they had the deadliest day in the water for almost a decade with three drownings and another life saved in Lorne.

6:44am: We've just put up a full list of nominations for the 55th annual TV Week Logie Awards.


You'll note that both Hamish Blake and Andy Lee will face off against each other for the Gold Logie. And the ABC rocks, according to Michael Idato.




6:37am: James Packer's Crown already has the cash registers going ch-ching!


Crown has started flying its three luxury jets to emerging Asian economies including Thailand and Cambodia as it trawls the region for high-rollers, an analysis of flight data by the Herald's business section reveals.




6:35am: Leave extra time to get to the airport this morning. A garbage truck has brought down power lines at Mascot.

6:33am: It's going to be another big (and possibly nauseating) week in politics.


Tony Abbott is trying on "sensitive Tony" for size, telling 60 Minutes last night that his views on homosexuality and abortion have softened in the last three years. And he wears "product" in his hair and "facial moisturiser, too". TFI Tony.

6:28am: Police have warned women to be wary of travelling alone in parts of Manly after two sexual assaults over the weekend. A 50 year-old woman and a 24 year-old woman were assaulted in separate incidents just 20 minutes apart on Sunday morning.




6:24am: In Germany, an early-morning fire at an apartment building in Backnang, a town near Stuttgart, has left eight people dead, seven of them children.

6:20am: In sports results from the mother country, Manchester United and Chelsea drew 2-2 in FA Cup quarter-final. United were 2-0 in front.


Liverpool beat Tottenham 3-2 in the Premier League.

6:16am: In Tokyo, a dust storm has blanketed the city with a brown haze. Not quite the same as Australia's doomsday-style one in 2009, who could forget that?

6:13am: Moving to world news from overnight, a Nigerian Islamist militant group claims to have killed seven foreign hostages it seized from a construction site last month. Western Governments say the claims regarding Italian, British, Greek and Lebanese victims are credible.

Two northbound lanes of Homebush Bay Drive are closed due to an oil spill. There are delays northbound on Homebush Bay Drive and the M4 westbound off ramp leading to Homebush Bay Drive.


At Mascot near the airport, traffic lights are not working both ways on Qantas Drive at Robey Street.




6:06am: On the front pages of the major papers today:


The Age in Melbourne reports that Victorians have strongly backed Denis Napthine over Ted Baillieu as premier, but the Coalition is facing a tough battle to cling to power, according to an exclusive voter poll.


The Australian Financial Review reveals that the Reserve Bank of Australia’s computer networks have been repeatedly and successfully hacked in a series of cyber-attacks to infiltrate sensitive internal information.


The Daily Telegraph carries a special report on women as the "ugly new faces of crime" according to figures showing there are more females in the dock and behind bars than ever before.


The Australian reports that Labor's latest electoral rout in WA has escalated warnings that voters have abandoned the party nationwide and raised new doubts about Julia Gillard's leadership.
