RUGBY LEAGUE

12:25pm: It might be hard to believe, but there was some action on the big piece of grass last night. Manly triumphed 22-14 over a lacklustre Brisbane Broncos outfit at Lang Park in Brisbane, thanks to a seven-minute purple patch that saw the Sea Eagles score three tries.

Brisbane led 14-6 at half-time but was totally outplayed by a Daly Cherry-Evans inspired Manly side, with the young half-back scoring a brilliant solo try to turn the tide.

12:19pm: Sharks captain Paul Gallen has spoken after Cronulla training this morning, saying we can expect a full-strength line-up for their NRL clash with the Titans tomorrow.

He says the players are determined to play for Shane Flanagan and the other sacked staff members.

"We were told what happened to the five staff members who aren't with us at the moment and as a team we're sticking together.

"We're playing tomorrow and we're just going to get out there and do our best for the five people that are no longer here and ourselves."

12:10pm: But first it's turmoil off the pitch that kicks off today's blog after a hellish evening for Cronulla Sharks supporters last night.

Cronulla has gutted its staff and stood down head coach Shane Flanagan as the fall-out from the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority's (ASADA) investigation.

Last night, Sharks deputy chairman Keith Ward and former ASADA deputy chair Tricia Kavanagh announced that four key staff members had been axed and Flanagan stood down pending a full review of the club's management.

Ward said front-office failures prompted Flanagan's benching as well as the decision to appoint former Brisbane Broncos chief executive Bruno Cullen in an interim chief executive role.

Ward confirmed Flanagan has been stood down on full pay, pending the outcome of a full management review, but football manager Darren Mooney, head sports trainer Mark Noakes, club doctor David Givney and physiotherapist Konrad Schultz were not so lucky.

12:00pm: Good afternoon and welcome back to another sporting feast here on Grandstand Live. We'll be keeping you up to date on all the major sporting action this Saturday, both in Australia and overseas, as well as all the drama off the pitch.

There's plenty to keep you entertained from the various codes, with the bulk of the NRL's opening round well and truly underway. At 5:30pm, The Eels take on the New Zealand Warriors in Parramatta as Ricky Stuart looks to get his reign in the blue-and-yellow colours started with a win. Following that, it's off to Bluetongue Stadium where the Canterbury Bulldogs will show off what kind of squad depth they have without Ben Barba against the North Queensland Cowboys.

There's the small matter of a Super Rugby date between the high-flying Brumbies and Israel Folau's Waratahs, while in the A-League the Central Coast Mariners will look to get back on track with a tricky away-tie against Sydney FC.

Ange Postecoglou will reacquaint himself with old club Brisbane Roar as the Melbourne Victory travels to Lang Park, while there's plenty of Sheffield Shield cricket and preseason cup AFL action to keep things ticking over.
