SUPER RUGBY
12:20pm: Speaking of ominous early signs, the Brumbies overran the Rebels 30-13 in their Super Rugby clash at "The Stockade" in Melbourne last night.
The Rebels held a narrow 13-12 advantage at the break but couldn't score in the second half as Jake White's men made it two from two.
In even worse news for the Rebels, James O'Connor was unable to complete the game after taking a hard collision with former Wallaby Clyde Rathbone and suffering a suspected concussion.
And Melbourne team-mate Kurtley Beale injured his shoulder in a tackle. Coach Damien Hill won't be a happy man this morning.
Brumbies prop Ben Alexander attributed the strong second stanza to a blasting in the change-rooms, a higher tempo and a cool head after the interval.

NRL
12:15pm: The new rugby league season is all but upon us and, if last night's showdown was anything to go by, South Sydney is going to be a force to be reckoned with this year.
The Bunnies blanked St George Illawarra in the second half to take out their annual Charity Shield clash 28-10 at the Olympic stadium.
Souths dominated the first half and raced into a 16-0 lead at half-time thanks to tries from Bryson Goodwin, Beau Champion and Nathan Peats.
The Dragons struggled to complete their sets and made mistake after mistake as the Rabbitohs' forwards made plenty of inroads.
Aside from a 15-minute spell in the second half, the Dragons struggled in attack, but coach Steve Price will be more concerned by a raft of injuries to his side just two weeks from the start of the NRL season.
Hookers Mitch Rein and Cameron King were both forced off the field as were veteran backs Jason Nightingale (sciatica) and Matt Cooper (calf).
King, who has endured a number of setbacks over the last three years, looked the most serious with the young rake taken from the field on a medicab after been knocked out by the arm of George Burgess as he dived towards the try line out of dummy half.

12:10pm: If you weren't able to catch the opening day's play in Chennai that opened Australia's four-Test tour of India, here's how it went down.
A battling Michael Clarke century helped Australia to early honours against India on the first day of the first Test in Chennai on Friday.
Clarke (103 not out) and Test debutant Moises Henriques (68) helped the tourists recover after a rush of wickets from Ravichandran Ashwin (6 for 88) in the middle session, with Australia ending the day on 7 for 316.
There was pressure on Clarke to make his century late on as the Indian spinners looked to frustrate his search for a single in the dying stages before stumps, before he drove Ravindra Jadeja down the ground for four.
The ton came with some help from debutant Henriques who scored a crucial maiden half-century in a measured 151-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
The pairing came after the tourists were reduced to 5 for 153 as Ashwin's straightening delivery disposed of David Warner (58), Shane Watson (28) and Matthew Wade (12) - all out lbw in the second session - as well as opener Ed Cowan (29) and Phil Hughes (6).

The business end of the A-League season rolls on as Western Sydney gets a shot at the top of the ladder as the competition new boys host lowly Perth Glory. But if the Wanderers wander into first, the Mariners can return to the summit later on with a victory over the Victory. Super Rugby and NRL fans alike will get their opportunity to see how Israel Folau fares in the professional 15-man game as he makes his debut against the Reds at Lang Park later this evening.
And of course we'll keep you updated on day two of the first Test at Chennai when Australia (7 for 316) resumes its first innings under the guidance of super-skipper Michael Clarke (103*).
