A YOUNG woman had a heated argument with her boyfriend in the moments before she fell to her death from a hotel balcony at Cronulla, in Sydney’s south, police say.

The 21-year-old died in hospital after she fell 25 metres from a 10th floor balcony at the Rydges Hotel onto a tiled terrace on the second floor at 11:30pm on Wednesday.

Police on Thursday said it was too early to tell if her death was a tragic accident or if she had met with foul play.

They said the couple had earlier that night been drinking and had gotten into an argument, that was heard by other hotel guests.

Her 27-year-old boyfriend has been interviewed by police. It is understood that the couple were holidaying in Sydney from the south coast and made a last minute decision to spend an extra night at the hotel.

The woman was taken to St George Hospital with critical injuries and underwent emergency surgery, but died early on Thursday morning.

Police have set up a crime scene at the hotel and officers will forensically examine the scene on Thursday.

It comes as a three-year-old girl recovers in hospital after falling through a fly screen and out a first-floor window of a house on Sydney's northern beaches.

The girl hit an awning before falling to the ground from her Elanora Heights home just before 1pm on Wednesday, Careflight said.

The girl suffered head injuries and was placed in an induced coma.

She was then flown to the Children's Hospital in Westmead after a Careflight helicopter landed in a small park close to the girl's Dewrang Avenue home.

The girl is in a serious but stable condition.
