A-LEAGUE

12:15pm: In case you were tipping back a festive season drink or two and missed last night's A-League results, do we have some surprises for you.

Western Sydney Wanderers, who've been looking very good in their inaugural season, put a big hurt on second-placed Adelaide United.

Mark Bridge scored a hat-trick as Western Sydney moved to third place on the A-League ladder with a shock 6-1 demolition of Adelaide United on Friday night.

The veteran striker slotted two in the first half, the first at the 18th minute and the second in the shadows of the break, before sealing his triple just before the hour mark at Parramatta Stadium.

Marquee man Shinji Ono and Croatian forward Dino Kresinger had a goal apiece to hand the Wanderers their sixth win of an impressive inaugural campaign.

Adelaide United managed to get one of its own on the board when Dario Vidosic found the back of the net in the 67th minute before young Wanderers gun Joey Gibbs drove the nail into the coffin late in regulation time.

Western Sydney now sits six points behind the Reds and seven short of ladder leader Central Coast, with the win pushing the competition new boys two points and eight goals ahead of next-placed Melbourne Victory.

In the later game, defending champion Brisbane's tough season continued in caretaker coach Mike Mulvey's first game at the reins.
