SYDNEY FC football director Gary Cole has become the latest victim of the club's restructure of football operations.
After a little less than 12 months after appointing him to the role, the Sky Blues announced that Cole’s position had been made redundant, effective immediately.
The decision comes just days after Frank Farina was named caretaker coach for the rest of the A-League season. The former Socceroos coach will take the reins this week, replacing Ian Crook, who resigned a month ago after a run of poor results.
The Sky Blues ended a four-match losing streak with a scoreless draw against Melbourne Heart yesterday but remain rooted to the bottom of the A-League ladder.
Cole, who was football manager at Melbourne Victory in the first five seasons of the national competition, joined Sydney in December last year.
The club issued a short statement this morning:
“Sydney FC has decided to make some structural changes to the football department and the position of Football Director has been made redundant,” chief executive officer Tony Pignata said.
“On behalf of Sydney FC, I’d like to thank Gary Cole for the work he did in his time at the club and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
