The Sydney Roosters have released centre Joseph ‘BJ’ Leilua from the final two years of his contract.
Fairfax Media understands that the Roosters have not been happy with Leilua’s attitude and application to club duties.
It's understood that Leilua did not impress new coach Trent Robinson with concerns over his attitude towards training, as well as his off-field behaviour.
A Roosters insider said ‘‘we’re after professional athletes’’, believing it was best for the club to part ways with the 21-year-old.
Leilua was given a one-year good behaviour bond in October for sending a nude photo of an ex-girlfriend to her brother and friend.
The centre made his first grade debut back in 2010 and is regarded as an up and coming talent.
Leilua was earlier this week selected in an emerging NSW Blues State of Origin squad and previously played for City Origin.
The Roosters issued a two paragraph release explaining Leilua’s sacking on Tuesday and said they wouldn’t make any further comment.
