SYDNEY'S self-styled "Prince of Paparazzi" has been banned from "loitering" within 50m of former Spice Girl Mel B after a run-in on the Harbour last week.

But celebrity photographer Jamie Fawcett said he had no intention of stopping shooting the X-Factor judge after she took out an apprehended violence order against him.

Mel Brown, also known as Scary Spice, made a dramatic appearance in Waverley Court wearing a figure-hugging blue dress and towering black heels for the hearing.

The 37-year-old Sydney newcomer claims Fawcett threatened her husband Stephen Belafonte and endangered her life during an incident on the water last Thursday afternoon.

Fawcett allegedly created "big waves" with his boat while he circled the kayaking Brown and her personal assistant, triggering a war of words between the photographer and her husband.

During the spat, Fawcett allegedly told Belafonte: "You don't know who you are f...ing with. I will kill you."

Fawcett didn't appear in court yesterday, but his lawyer Roland Day told magistrate Jacqueline Milledge that only one side of the story had been presented.

He said his client consented to an interim order because all parties had "a little bit more homework" to do. "They are a special class of person, on both sides, in some respects," he said.

Ms Milledge granted a temporary AVO for Brown and Belafonte - banning the paparazzo from coming within 5m of the couple or from "loitering" less than 50m away.

"(Fawcett) has just got to put a little bit of thought into (how he works)," she said.

The couple claimed they might be injured through the photographer's negligence if a permanent AVO keeping him at least 200m away wasn't granted.Yesterday Fawcett told The Daily Telegraph the interim AVO was "hardly a victory" for Brown and Belafonte, and he was happy he could keep "doing his job".

"The whole point of (this order) is that I can continue to do my job, including taking pictures of any celebrity, but particularly Mel B," he said.

Fawcett said he had evidence to show the allegations against him were "completely without basis".

The controversial paparazzo has previously drawn the ire of other celebrities such as Lara Bingle and Nicole Kidman.

Fawcett's run-ins with Nicole Kidman have been well publicised after a judge found that he planted a listening device outside her home in 2005.

Brown didn't speak as she left the court yesterday. The case returns to court on November 22.
