A heavily pregnant woman has told how she feared for the safety of her unborn baby when she was pushed to the ground and stomped on during a violent bag snatch in Sydney.
The 35-year-old woman, Swati, who is due to give birth to her baby boy on December 13, was walking through bushland to a carpark from Holsworthy Railway Station about 3.40pm (AEDT) on Wednesday with her 20-year-old niece when the robbers struck.
She was approached from behind by three men who tapped her shoulder and tried to pull her bag from her.
After the bag was snatched from her she was pushed to the ground.
"I thought it's a joke but then after a while I realised it's serious, someone is snatching my bag," she told Ten News.
"When pulling the bag he pulled me as well and he threw me to the ground.
"I was trying to stop them, saying `don't stamp on my tummy' and this second guy he just stomped on my tummy."
Swati's only concern was for her baby.
"My concentration was on my tummy, I was actually protecting my baby and I was making sure I was not falling straight onto my tummy.
"I could have a miscarriage ... something could go wrong with the baby, so I was more concerned about my baby's safety actually."
Liverpool police commander Superintendent Ray King described it as "an appalling crime committed by cowards".
The men ran towards a footbridge and disappeared into bushland after the attack.
Swati and her baby were unharmed.
Investigations were continuing
