Sam Young's NBL debut was a fizzer. Game two told a very different story.

Sydney's highest-profile recruit in club history scored 14 points against the Wildcats last weekend in Perth when the Kings copped a 43-point hiding.

Young made amends in Melbourne on Sunday, dominating the Tigers at both ends of the floor as Sydney got back on a winning track with a 67-63 victory.

The former Memphis, Philadelphia and Indiana forward stared the match with a couple of mid-range jump shots but the Kings trailed 11-6 midway through the first quarter.

Young then peeled off a couple of spectacular slams, including a gravity-defying put-back dunk, as the visitors went on a 24-0 run to establish early dominance.

After leading 40-30 at half-time, the Kings went to sleep in the third quarter, scoring just seven points to hold a 47-44 lead heading into the final term.

The Tigers drew level midway through the third term and with two minutes remaining, it was still a deadlock at 62-62.

Young's on-court presence down the stretch, highlighted by a strong drive to the basket and another spin move in the paint which yielded another two points, helped Sydney kick again and close out the victory.

He finished with a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds to be the difference between the two sides and lift Sydney to a 5-4 record for the season.

Charles Carmouche looked more comfortable in his second match running the point since the departure of fellow import Jesse Sanders, tallying 14 points, while centre AJ Ogilvy put in a much better performance after the Perth debacle, 10 points and 12 rebounds to go with four blocks.

A worrying sign for coach Shane Heal was Ben Madgen, normally a prolific scorer, was quiet for a second straight week, notching only three points on 1/6 shooting.

Chris Goulding (20) and Scott Morrison (20) were the standouts for the Tigers. Recent recruit Mustapha Farrakhan, who was close to a contract with the LA Cliippers in the NBA pre-season before getting cut, still looks like he's getting settled at Melbourne, registering six points in 20 minutes on the court.

Young will play his third straight road match for his new team on Saturday when Sydney travel to Wollongong before Kings fans finally get to see him strut his stuff at the Kingdome the following Saturday against the Hawks.

Del Piero hurt in Jets encounter - Sydney Morning Herald

Sydney FC will be sweating on the results of medical scans Alessandro Del Piero must have this week after he limped off the field during Saturday's win over the Newcastle Jets feeling a tingling sensation in his left leg.

The Italian star did not put in the quality performance he has become synonymous with since joining the harbour city club. After struggling to exert his usual dominance on the field, he was forced off due to injury for the second time this season.

The 39-year-old walked straight to the bench clutching his left leg without waiting for play to stop and dismissed the advice of the fourth official to remain on the field until the referee granted him permission to seek treatment.

Sydney FC coach Frank Farina said Del Piero might have sustained a hefty injury. He will have tests this week to determine its severity.

"We don't know whether it's neural or he has done some damage but he said he had some tingling sensation," Farina said. "I'm not a doctor, I'm not a physio, so we'll just wait and see on scans.

"He was fine [coming into the match] – good as gold."

Should Del Piero not be deemed fit to play against Central Coast Mariners next week, his absence will pave the way for Serbian striker Ranko Despotovic to claim his first start at his new club. Despotovic scored his second goal in as many games in the 2-0 win over the Jets, having come on for Del Piero minutes before half time.

Despotovic dribbled through static Jets defenders to net a second-half goal that sealed the win. His performance will likely elevate him to the starting line-up next week.

"Yeah definitely – we've always planned to give him more time this week," Farina said. "It just happened that he got a bit more than we were going to give him when Alessandro came off.

"He's in good condition in terms of shape and that, so who knows, he may even start next week but we will see what happens during the week."

Meanwhile, Newcastle Jets coach Gary Van Egmond lamented his team's inability to convert a number of clear-cut chances that would have given them a result against the Sky Blues.

Van Egmond conceded he might have to tweak his team's attacking line-up in future games to accommodate marquee Emile Heskey alongside the A-League's leading goal scorer, Adam Taggart.

"We have to get better in the way in which we utilise Emile," Van Egmond said.

Weekend parking a no-go on Sydney roads - NEWS.com.au

SYDNEY'S traffic congestion has officially become part of the weekend, with clearways along five major roads set to be introduced.

Parking along the five routes will be a thing of the past once the clearways, which extend up to 12 hours, are put in place.

With an extra 15 million trips being taken each Saturday and Sunday, compared to ten years ago, Mr Gay said something needed to be done.

"Everyone knows the weekend traffic problem in Sydney, it is just horrendous," he told reporters.

"People that use public transport during the week are using their cars on weekends."

Unlike weekdays, Mr Gay said weekend peak goes all day as people ferry themselves to lunches, dinners, sporting events and shops.

There are five priority corridors earmarked for weekend clearways, with Victoria Road in Sydney's inner west being the first to trial the system in March next year.

Parking on the thoroughfare will be banned on weekends from 8am to 8pm.

To help local businesses deal with the change, $21 million has been thrown at creating new parking in the affected areas.

"I will not put a clearway in unless we provide at least the amount of parking spaces that we are removing," Mr Gay said.

But Mr Gay concedes some are unhappy.

"No business is happy at losing parking in front of their businesses."

The other nominated clearways are on Lane Cove Road, from North Ryde to Macquarie Park, Mona Vale Road from St Ives to West Pymble and the Princes Highway from Kirrawee to Blakehurst.

King Georges and Roberts roads from the M5 at Beverly Hills to The Hume Highway at Greenacre will also be subject to the parking restrictions.

Trials on these roads will begin sometime next year, following consultation with businesses and councils.

Police will be on motorbikes to enforce the changes.

Motoring lobby NRMA welcomed the move, with CEO Tony Stuart saying clearways in Sydney had not been audited since the 2000 Olympics.

"This is a sensible solution to a problem that has been strangling Sydney's traffic flow for years," he said.

"The good news for local businesses is that parking spots lost on Victoria Rd will be replaced in surrounding areas."

The Sydney Business Chamber encouraged business owners on the clearways to participate in the community consultation.

"The minister clearly recognises that street access is an important issue for businesses located along busy roads like Victoria Road," executive director Patricia Forsythe said.

"I am pleased that the government will secure alternative parking for the 44 spaces that are expected to no longer be available during the extended clearways period."

New Sydney casino to head even higher - Yahoo!7 News

James Packer s new casino resort for Sydney is tipped to soar 270 metres above Sydney s skyline.AAP James Packer's new casino resort for Sydney is tipped to soar 270 metres above Sydney's skyline.

A mega-resort housing Sydney's second casino is tipped to soar 20 metres higher than originally planned, making it the second tallest landmark in the city.

James Packer's Crown Resorts has proposed a $1.3 billion project for Barangaroo on Sydney Harbour that would include a new VIP casino and a six star hotel.

News Corp Australia reports the project plans reveal the building would stand 270 metres high, instead of the previously indicated 250m, and also include a new pier to be built on the harbour.

The pier would be for an innovation centre.

According to the report, the foreshore area fronting the resort would be widened and 50 per cent of the waterfront precinct would be public space.

Sydney Tower is Sydney's highest landmark at 309m.

The NSW Government progressed Mr Packer's casino vision through the approvals process earlier this month.

The government says the casino, which is set to operate in November 2019, will bring at least $1 billion in the first 15 years from licence fees and gaming taxes.

The Greens had criticised the approval process the project went through for a lack of consultation and independence.

Sydney FC surge to fourth straight win - Sydney Morning Herald

Less than a month after Sydney FC fans were calling for his head, coach Frank Farina etched his name into the club's history books as they achieved their longest winning streak with an emphatic victory over Newcastle Jets.

The Sky Blues' season looked to be heading towards disappointment but they have now established themselves as contenders with a fourth successive win and, importantly for their morale, it came without help from marquee Alessandro Del Piero.

The Italian great had left no mark on the game by the time he walked off in the middle of play late in the first half due to a hamstring injury. In his absence his fellow strikers Joel Chianese and Ranko Despotovic continued Sydney's rapid march up the A-League table.

Several strong early challenges by Sydney FC hinted there was plenty of confidence stemming from their run of form, but there were still warning signs their depleted back line would struggle to contain the imposing attack of Emile Heskey, Nathan Burns and Adam Taggart.

The high pressing of the Jets eroded Sydney's ball retention and the visitors nearly broke the deadlock after the half-hour. Matt Jurman smothered a Heskey shot on the six-yard box and Ruben Zadkovich pounced on the loose ball to shoot from close range. Vedran Janjetovic spoiled his chance of celebrating in front of The Cove with a fine low save.

The hosts' evening was fading quickly in tune with the performance of Del Piero, who was struggling to execute simple plays, move for the ball and involve himself in attack. It was no surprise to see him limp off in the 43rd minute, but he didn't even wait for play to stop. He turned his back on his team's attack and ignored the advice of the fourth official to remain on the field and headed straight for the bench to be replaced by Despotovic.

Just as Sydney looked to have imploded, Chianese took matters into his own hands. A minute before half-time, the Sydney striker latched on to an Ali Abbas cross and turned his marker with a superb first touch. With his second touch, he slammed the ball into the back of the net on the stroke of half-time.

That lead was almost cut 30 seconds after the restart. Before either teams could settle, Nicky Carle gifted Taggart an opportunity to score his seventh goal of the season with a careless back-pass into space. The young striker attempted to lob the oncoming Janjetovic, but the goalkeeper accelerated off his line and cleared the shot with his forehead after leaping from the edge of his box.

The Sky Blues didn't look like surrendering despite the Jets boasting the better use of their share of possession. Even when their defence would crumble, the Jets couldn't punish them. Carle, who had been calm on the ball but worrying off it, conceded a challenge to Ben Kantarovski who drifted a cross to an unmarked Burns at the back post, but he blazed his shot narrowly high from point-blank range.

Burns has been guilty of missing plenty of chances this season but few were as costly as that. On the stroke of the hour, the man who replaced Del Piero gave the 14,803 fans the celebrations they hoped their marquee would deliver them.

Despotovic dribbled past three players to surge into the box and fired a stinging left-foot shot that beat Mark Birighitti to the near post and ricocheted off the inside of the upright and into the net. His second goal in as many A-League games killed off any chance of a Jets revival and secured another home win for Sydney.

Adam Scott opens four-shot lead over Rory McIlroy in Sydney - Irish Independent

Two-time major champion McIlroy looked down and out after a patchy front nine but rallied for a 70 to remain in the hunt for his first win of the year in front of bumper galleries at the Royal Sydney Golf Course.

Most of the crowd were backing Scott's bid to secure a "triple crown" of Australian titles and a huge cheer went around the course when he birdied the last to double his overnight lead by reaching 16-under for the tournament.

"It's an exciting position to be in, obviously a great chance to win my national championship tomorrow," Scott, who has already won the Australian PGA and Masters titles this month, told reporters.

"And then also win the three events down here which is an unbelievable spot to be in. If you'd told me a month ago, I wouldn't have believed you.

"One round to go but a lot can happen. It's a phenomenon playing behind me and I'm sure he's going to throw plenty at me... but as long as the eye stays in with the putter, I think I should hold on."

McIlroy missed a shorter birdie putt at the 18th and so will resume on Sunday on 12-under, four shots clear of Australians Max McCardle (69), Matt Jones (72) and Richard Green (73) in a share of third.

"I played a good back nine, it could have been a couple better, I felt I left a couple out there," the 24-year-old said.

"But obviously I'm four back now and I've got a tough job on my hands to try and catch Adam."

Scott started the day with a two-shot advantage over McIlroy and, with the sun shining brightly, it looked being a day of low scoring when both players birdied the opening hole.

McIlroy found himself in a thicket with his drive at the second but rallied to save par brilliantly as Scott lipped out with a birdie putt.

The Northern Irishman's bogey at the fourth was not a disaster as Scott followed suit after finding a bunker but the Australian opened up a four-shot lead as the wind whipped up at the fifth.

McIlroy undercooked successive chips from the bottom of a greenside slope and then two-putted for a double bogey, while Scott missed a 10-foot birdie putt but sank his second attempt from a foot for par.

Former world number one McIlroy was now buried in the chasing pack and when Scott picked up shots at the three holes before the turn he moved to 15-under, five clear of Jones and Green in second.

Scott drove into the trees and then the sand to take a bogey at the 10th, however, and McIlroy capitalised with the first of three birdies in five holes, the last coming after he hit the pin with his tee shot at the short 14th.

Scott was only a little less accurate with his iron for a birdie at the same hole and the marquee pairing were now clear at the top of the leaderboard.

Both found the greenside bunkers at the 16th but saved par, McIlroy just missing out on a birdie with a long snaking putt, and the pair got up-and-down from off the green for pars at the next before Scott drained his crucial five-footer at the last.

"I had to make (my putt) because I believed he would make his," Scott added.

"If it went the other way and I missed and he made, it's two shots and that's nothing. That can be gone on the first green tomorrow. Four shots is a slightly better buffer."

McIlroy, who has endured a disappointing season after a stellar 2012, lamented his miss with the putter at the 18th but has not given up hopes of overhauling his Australian friend.

"(It's possible) on this golf course, where there can be a lot of two-shot swings and someone makes a couple of pars and someone gets off to a fast start and makes a birdie and an eagle and you're right back in it," McIlroy said.

"There's plenty of chances out there and it's just a matter of taking your opportunities when they come."

Sydney sets club record winning streak - Ninemsn

Surging Sydney chalked up a club record fourth straight win, with new striker Ranko Despotovic again finding the net in a 2-0 A-League home victory over Newcastle.

The 30 year-old Serbian striker, who scored the match-winner against Wellington last week after making his debut off the bench, produced a longer super sub cameo on Saturday.

His match-clinching goal on the hour pushed Sydney up to second spot.

Despotovic entered the game at Allianz Stadium after 43 minutes, when skipper Alessandro Del Piero walked off with what appeared to be a hamstring issue.

Del Piero, who struggled to have any impact, was booked by referee Ben Williams for leaving the pitch before the officials were notified of any substitution.

Any frustration Sydney felt then dissipated two minutes later, when they took the lead on the stroke of halftime.

Joel Chianese, who scored the opening goal of the season against the Jets seven weeks earlier, again ended a scoreless stalemate.

He pounced on a fine cross from left back Ali Abbas, controlled the ball with his first touch and drilled it past goalkeeper Mark Birighitti with his second.

The match tilted decisively towards Sydney in a three-minute period early in the second half.

With Newcastle 1-0 down, an unmarked Nathan Burns blazed over from close range.

The Jets, who'd been undefeated after round one, were made to pay for his profligacy on the hour, as Despotovic brushed past Taylor Regan and beat Birighitti inside his near post.

Sydney had the edge in possession in a frenetic and tightly contested first half, but they also had the busier goalkeeper.

Vedran Janjetovic knocked down a stinging shot from in-from Jets striker Adam Taggart and he dealt comfortably with a weak effort from Scott Neville.

Sydney almost lost their lead in the first 30 seconds of the second half after midfielder Nick Carle lost possession in his own half.

Taggart, who had scored six goals in the Jets' last three games, was right through, but his attempted chip over Janjetovic, was acrobatically headed clear by the Sydney shot stopper.

Former England striker Emile Heskey, who was making his first start of the season for the Jets, was replaced in the 58th minute, and Taggart shot wide from close range just before the end.

Sydney coach Frank Farina downplayed the significance of the record streak.

"It's nice to get four in a row, but we're only eight rounds in so we've just got to keep going," Farina told reporters.

"I didn't think we started that well again, the effort was there, but we turned over too much possession in the first 25 minutes for my liking.

"But we bounced back well."

He wasn't sure of the extent of Del Piero's injury but hoped he would be right to play Central Coast in Gosford next Saturday.

"We don't know whether it's neural or he's done some damage but he said he had a tingling sensation," Farina said.

He revealed Despotovic was definitely getting closer to making his first start and it could happen next week.

Newcastle coach Gary van Egmond felt both of Sydney's goals came from Jets' errors and could have been prevented.

"It's not only that side of it, the flip side is we had enough chances to win the game," van Egmond said.

Tomic gets wildcard to defend Sydney title - The Star Online

SYDNEY (AFP): Australia's Bernard Tomic has fallen back on a wildcard entry to make the rankings cut-off and defend his only ATP Tour title in Sydney in January.

Tomic's 51 ranking fell just outside the cut-off point of 49 for the men's field at the Sydney International from January 5-11.

But organisers said they issued Tomic their first wildcard this week, ensuring the 21-year-old can attempt to repeat his tournament victory from early this year, when he won through to beat South Africa's Kevin Anderson in the final.

Tomic will have his work cut out against a field headed by world number five Juan Martin Del Potro, Wimbledon semi-finalist Jerzy Janowicz, world No.13 Nicolas Almagro, No.16 Fabio Fognini and former champions Jarkko Nieminen and Dmitry Tursunov.

Tomic said he is set to name his new coach within the next fortnight.

Australia's top-ranked male tennis player has been on the lookout for a mentor to replace his father John, suspended from the ATP Tour indefinitely following his assault on Tomic's former training partner Thomas Drouet in May.

Adam Scott opens four-shot lead over Rory McIlroy in Sydney - Irish Independent

Adam Scott has a four-shot lead in Sydney

Scott blotted his scorecard with two bogeys in a third round of 68, but that compared well with the four he recorded on Friday after his blistering opening effort of 62.

A run of three birdies between the seventh and ninth ensured he remained the right side of par on the day, and helped him pull clear of McIlroy who ran into trouble early in the day, with a bogey on the fourth and a double bogey on the fifth, before recovering with four birdies between the seventh and 14th helping him to a round of 70.

That sees Scott stretch his overnight lead to four, but with McIlroy also increasing his grip on second place - four shots clear of Matthew Jones, Richard Green and Max McCardie in a three-way tie for third - it appears unlikely that Sunday's winner will come from anywhere other than the top two.

Of those three, only McCardie showed any real form in the third round, carding a 69 to move up while Jones had an eagle 72, late bogeys on the 17th and 18th helping to cancel out his eagle on the seventh, while a poor back nine saw Green sign for a 73.

Stuart Appleby moved up to a share of sixth with a round of 67 while Jason Day got himself into the top 10 with a 66, a mark equalled by Mark Brown and Anthony Murdaca on the day but not bettered.

Earlier this month Scott won the Australian PGA Championship and the Talisker Masters and chief executive officer of the PGA of Australia Brian Thorburn is delighted with Scott's achievements already this year.

Referring to not only his Australian PGA and Masters wins but also his World Cup of Golf title, Thorburn told www.pga.org.au: "What Adam has already achieved over the last four weeks is remarkable."

On Sunday Scott can make history if he claims the Australian golf triple crown, and Thorburn added: "It's already been a history-making year for the US Masters champion and tomorrow Adam has another chance to do what no other person has ever done.

"On behalf of all of Adam's fellow PGA and PGA Tour of Australasia Members I wish him the best of luck."

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Adam Scott holds the upper hand in his duel with Rory McIlroy going into the final day of the Australian Open after the home favorite posted a four-under-par 68 to open a four-shot lead over the Briton on Saturday.

Two-time major champion McIlroy looked down and out after a patchy front nine but rallied for a 70 to remain in the hunt for his first win of the year in front of bumper galleries at the Royal Sydney Golf Course.

FIVE CLEAR

Former world number one McIlroy was now buried in the chasing pack and when Scott picked up shots at the three holes before the turn he moved to 15-under, five clear of Jones and Green in second.

Scott drove into the trees and then the sand to take a bogey at the 10th, however, and McIlroy capitalized with the first of three birdies in five holes, the last coming after he hit the pin with his tee shot at the short 14th.

Sydney heading for warmest year on record - Sydney Morning Herald

After the warmest spring and winter on record for much of Sydney, 2013 is expected to be the warmest year on record.

December is predicted to be warmer than the usual averages of 25 degrees for Sydney and 29 degrees for Penrith.

But temperatures will be near average in January and February, according to Weatherzone meteorologist Rob Sharpe.

November rainfall was well above average, reaching 193 millimetres in Sydney, beating the average of 84 millimetres by a long way, he said.

"It's been quite wet and there were two periods in the middle of the month where we had quite a bit of rain," he said.

Much of Sydney, including the west, has been hotter than usual throughout spring, with an average maximum of 25.7 degrees and an average minimum of 15.1 degrees.

"It's a new record by almost half a degree in the city when combining the maximum and minimum average temperatures," the meteorologist said. "It's significantly warmer than any other spring that Sydney has enjoyed."

Penrith and Blacktown temperatures are expected to pick up in the second half of December, and dry weather is expected towards the end of the year before rain returns early next year.

Don't put away the umbrellas yet though, as Sydney is expected to see rain for the next couple of weeks, Mr Sharpe said.

"There's still a lot of moisture in the country at the moment, due to low pressure troughs moving through Sydney," he said.

"The extra moisture has come from the tropics with the arrival of tropical cyclone Alessia."

El Nino neutral conditions are expected to persist throughout summer, while sea surface temperatures off the coast of NSW are likely to be slightly above average.

Sydney FC defender Tiago Calvano banned for eight A-League games for ... - ABC Online

Posted November 28, 2013 15:02:27

Sydney FC defender Tiago Calvano has been hit with an eight-game A-League ban for making contact with a referee.

The Brazilian was charged with "unsporting conduct towards a match official" over an incident involving referee Peter Green in the Sky Blues' round five win over Melbourne Victory.

On Thursday, the Football Federation Australia Disciplinary Committee headed by chairman John Marshall, finally announced their decision, meaning Calvano will be unavailable until late January.

If the off-contract Calvano receives a direct red card for any other offence during the current 2013/14 A-League season he will receive a further ban of four matches.

The penalty is significantly lighter than the nine- month ban goalkeeper Danny Vukovic receive when he slapped away the hand of referee Mark Shield in the Central Coast's 2008 grand final loss to Newcastle.

Calvano's extended absence is likely to give former Brisbane Roar defender Matt Jurman the chance to establish himself in Sydney's line-up.

Missing Sydney teen Krystal Muhieddine found alive and well in Victoria - ABC Online

Updated November 29, 2013 13:19:59

A 14-year-old girl who went missing from her home in Sydney's north-west early earlier this week has been found safe and well in country Victoria.

Krystal Muhieddine left her family's home at Hunters Hill in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

She was last seen driving away as a passenger in a silver hatchback with red P-plates about 5:30am.

Police say the teenager was located today just before 11:30am (AEDT) in an unspecified location in Victoria.

Her parents appealed for information on their daughter's location and wellbeing yesterday.

Her father Wally Muhieddine said the teenager was not "street-wise".

"She's actually quite bright and sophisticated in so many other ways, but she sleeps with her teddy bear. She took her teddy bear with her."

Police had said they were investigating social networking websites, after the girl's friends revealed she had been communicating with a boy online.

Sydney FC v Newcastle Jets: The Lowdown - Sydney Morning Herald

<p>

Allianz Stadium, Sydney

Kick-off: 7.45pm

TV: Live, FOX Sports 1HD

Radio: ABC Sydney and Newcastle

Odds: Sydney FC $2.20, draw $3.40, Newcastle $3.20 (Sportsbet.com.au)

Twitter: #SYDvNEW

Head to head: Sydney 14, Newcastle 6, drawn 7

FIVE TO WATCH

1. Richard Garcia (Sydney FC)

A tough start to the season has been put behind him. Garcia has scored two in three and his bullet against Wellington showed his ability from range.

2. Emile Heskey (Newcastle Jets)

Came off the bench last week but looks set for a start. His job is not just to score but to provide protection for Adam Taggart. They need to develop a quick understanding.

3. Ali Abbas (Sydney FC)

Abbas is occupying the left-back role ahead of Marc Warren - not a bad feat considering Warren is a specialist in the position. He faces the club which gave him his A-League chance but also axed him.

4. Craig Goodwin (Newcastle Jets)

With Josh Mitchell out, Goodwin can resume at left-back. He's clearly talented but has not always been able to produce it over 90 minutes. He needs consistency.

5. Ranko Despotovic (Sydney FC)

If Despotovic does nothing else in his Sydney career, he can always say he bagged a winner on debut. That might be enough to earn him a start as striker here, with Garcia dropping back into attacking midfield.

THE KEY MATCH-UP

Matt Jurman (Sydney FC) v

Adam Taggart (Newcastle)

Taggart is the man everyone is talking about after six goals in three games - and everyone wants to know if he can handle the pressure of his new-found fame. Jurman replaces Pedj Bojic. After waiting all season, he finally gets his chance.

IN THE DUGOUT

Frank Farina (Sydney FC)

There's no reason for the ''Cranky Franky'' tag right now as Sydney hunt another big win.

Gary van Egmond (Newcastle)

Like Farina, he's ignored the boo boys to get his side moving in the right direction. Also like Farina, he wants four wins in a row.

appeal for information on missing 14yo Sydney girl - ABC Online

Updated November 28, 2013 17:53:33

Police in Sydney say they have serious concerns for a teenage girl who has not been seen for more than two days.

Krystal Muhieddine left her home at Hunters Hill in the city's north-west about 5:30am (AEDT) on Tuesday.

The 14-year-old did not tell her family where she was going and they have not heard from the teenager since.

Detectives believe the girl was picked up from the home by a person driving a silver-coloured hatchback with red P-plates.

Police are investigating social networking websites, after the girl's friends revealed she had been communicating with a boy.

Today the girl's parents made an appeal for information to find their daughter.

"She's just very sweet. She's sweet, she's innocent, she's young, she's not street-wise," her father Wally Muhieddine said.

"She's actually quite bright and sophisticated in so many other ways, but she sleeps with her teddy bear. She took her teddy bear with her."

The teenager's mother, Suzanne Muhieddine, had a message for her daughter.

"You're not in trouble. No-one is in trouble. We just want you home safely," she said.

"We just want to know where you are. If you can't get to your phone just ask someone to use their phone.

"Ask anyone for help you need it. We just want you home."

Krystal Muhieddine is described as being of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance, 180cm tall with a thin build with shoulder-length brown curly hair.

She wears black-framed reading glasses and it is believed she was wearing a dark navy blue hooded top when she left home on Tuesday.

Police believe the girl also took a green school bag containing a small amount of cash and clothing.

THEME park group Village Roadshow will focus on less developed Asian markets as it scales back its involvement in the United States.

Village announced last week that it would offload water parks in Hawaii and Arizona, marking a $2 million loss, as it maintains a 51 per cent stake in a recently opened Wet'n'Wild park in Las Vegas. Chairman Robert Kirby says emerging economies are a better proposition.

"This change in strategy is because we considered that it was becoming increasingly difficult, with the improving US economy, to acquire additional suitable properties at satisfactory prices, and because we consider that we can achieve better returns in less mature markets, notably in Asia," he told shareholders.

A water park on Hainan Island in China is due to open in late 2014 or early 2015.

Next month, the group is opening Sydney's first major theme park since Wonderland closed in 2004, which will include 40 rides and the "world's biggest inland sea".

Village has spent $8 million marketing its new Wet'n'Wild park at Prospect, in Sydney's west, with the costs to come off the balance sheet for the second half of 2013/14.

"We have no doubt that the pay-off will be significant for the 2014 full-year and beyond," Mr Kirby said.

"On December 12 we are launching one of the company's biggest initiatives.

"The opening of what we are accurately billing as the best water theme park in the entire world."

Village has also set aside new funds to appeal a court decision related to its previous stake in Sydney Attractions Group.

McIlroy eyes Sydney victory - SPORT24

European Tour

Rory McIlroy (AFP)

Sydney - Rory McIlroy set himself up on Friday to capture a first victory this season, snaring the clubhouse lead on day two of the Australian Open at Royal Sydney.

The Northern Irishman grabbed nine birdies in a seven under par 65 to tie on 10-under par with Australia's Adam Scott.

The World number six made up for a disappointing opening round by birdying his first two holes and also his last, half an hour before Scott started his second outing.

"It felt good out there this morning and we got a little lucky with the weather forecast not as bad as we thought it would be," McIlroy said.

"Overall I played well and putted much better than on Thursday so that was a big positive, and I am now in a great position going into the weekend."

It is McIlroy's first appearance in an Australian Open since competing as an amateur in 2006, also at Royal Sydney, where he averaged 76 over the four rounds.

Reports claim McIlroy has been paid a million dollars to tee up this year in Sydney and while his management company would not comment on this, the double Major winner, who features along with Scott and Jason Day on the promotional billboards and banners, said he was delighted to bring value to the championship.

"It's very satisfying for me where you are one of the headline acts or main attractions to be able to live up to that billing," he said.

"For the most part this year I haven't been able to do that, so it's nice to be able to reward the people who invite you down here and look after you so well.

"That is what the sponsors and organisers ultimately want at the end of the week and that is to see your name up there on the leader board and challenging for the title."

While McIlroy is looking to end a more than 12-month winless drought, he is also seeking to become only the second European-born winner of the Australian Open.

Leading scores after the second round of the Emirates Australian Open at Royal Sydney Golf Club (par 72) on Friday.

SYDNEY and NSW'S most violent drinking venue is bar baron Justin Hemmes' Ivy complex, the only one to be subject to "Level 1" restrictions.

Hospitality minister George Souris will today announce new laws next year imposing restrictions before midnigh on violent venues if they have a history of violent incidents earlier in the evening.

The violent venue list will increase to 21 pubs and clubs on December 1, and the affected pubs and clubs will have stricter conditions on their liquor license.

"Currently a number of the scheme's conditions only apply after midnight, but this amendment would aim to ensure that venues, including country venues that have earlier closing times, can still be effectively targeted with conditions if violent incidents and high risk trading periods are occurring earlier,'' Mr Souris said.

The Ivy recorded 26 violent incidents and will be subject to conditions including a 2am lockout, extra security guards, and a ban on shots.

These venues have to stop serving alcohol 30 minutes before closing, and glass containers are banned after midnight.

The Waratah Hotel in Mudgee had 18 violent incidents, and Cheeky Monkeys Bar and Restaurant and Cocktails in Lismore both had 16 each.

The New Brighton Hotel in Manly, the Mean Fiddler in Rouse Hill, and Roxy Hotel in Parramatta, each had 15.

"This list identifies those licensed premises which are the worst hot spots for trouble so that special operating conditions can be imposed to help manage the risk of further violence,'' Mr Souris said.

"My strong advice to all licensed venues is to regularly review your alcohol and security management plans to minimise the chance of violence on your premises."

Six venues, including the Trademark Hotel in Kings Cross will be removed from the list, after the number of violent incidents fell.
