Crims shooting crims in Sydney: police - The West Australian

The latest string of bikie-related shootings which have so far claimed the lives of two Sydney men is a case of criminals shooting criminals, NSW Police Minister Mike Gallacher says.

He was commenting after a man in his mid-40s staggered into a Sydney hospital late on Monday after being shot in Fairfield.

That incident came a day after a 32-year-old man with links to the Comanchero bikie gang was shot in the upper body in St Marys on Sunday night.

On July 16, a man survived after being shot in the neck in Bexley and a man identified in media reports as Hells Angel Ali Jammas died in hospital after being shot a number of times Abbotsbury on July 12

On July 8, 37-year-old man Tyrone Slemnik, a member of the same club, was fatally hit and a 25-year-old suspected associate was shot in the leg in Eastlakes.

Both were suspected bikies.

The shootings were all targeted, Mr Gallacher told reporters in Sydney.

"The victims invariably know the offenders, there's nothing random in any of these.

"These criminals are targeting other criminals."

However he said crime statistics showed Sydney is safer than it has ever been and there had been a significant drop in the number of drive-by shootings.

Police had arrested more than 300 people laid over 600 charges since February, he said.

"Police are doing absolutely everything they can to lock them up, throw them in."

The latest shooting follows searches of hundreds of homes and dozens of cars during weekend raids by Sydney police over the weekend in a crackdown on bikie and gang-related crime.

On Saturday and Sunday, police went to 267 premises and searched 54 people and 39 cars.

The operation involved more than 100 uniformed officers supported by the Dog Unit and the PolAir.

They also seized prohibited drugs with one man being charged with drug possession and two others issued with cannabis cautions.
